Joshua Ali

Joshua Ali is a Gospel recording artist, songwriter, producer, and worship leader from Trinidad and Tobago, now based in Canada. His music combines Caribbean soca influences with contemporary Christian and Gospel music, a style he describes as Alternative Gospel.

Joshua began his recording career in 2015 after developing his skills as a producer. His recorded work includes Over Dey – Where Home Is, I Am Ready, A Joshua Ali Christmas, and numerous singles and collaborations with artists across the Caribbean and internationally.

His work has received recognition through multiple Marlin Award nominations and wins. Joshua was elected as a Voting Member of the Recording Academy in 2021 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music & Worship Arts from Tyndale University. He currently serves as a Worship Pastor in Canada.

“You Made It” is an original contemporary Christian recording written by Joshua Ali and Joel Thomas. The recording features Joshua Ali on lead vocals with choir accompaniment and live bass performed by Justin Kardia Peterkin. Ali produced and mixed the recording, with Joel Thomas serving as executive producer and Kasey Phillips as mastering engineer. The song explores themes of faith, perseverance, hope, and God’s faithfulness.

The story

From the church in Trinidad to a Canadian No. 1.

Joshua Ali grew up in church in Trinidad and Tobago and learned music there first. He trained as a producer under engineers whose credits include Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and Beyoncé, then stepped up to the mic in 2015.

He calls his sound Alternative Gospel: Caribbean soca rhythm married to contemporary worship. Since then he has released Over Dey, I Am Ready, Reset, A Joshua Ali Christmas and a long run of singles and collaborations across the Caribbean, Africa, Canada and the US.

Today he serves as a Worship Pastor in Ontario, holds a BA in Music & Worship Arts from Tyndale University, and is raising two sons, Israel and Isaiah, with his wife Ashley.

His mentors, engineers Martin Raymond and Dextor Simmons, have worked with Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Toni Braxton and Beyoncé. Joshua has collaborated with Sherwin Gardner, Blessed Messenger, Jaron Nurse, Uche Agu, Positive, Sean Daniel, Nathanael Hamilton, Sherieta Lewis, Jai Symone, Marvin Thomas and Royalties, among many others.

In 2020 he co-created and produced Children of Tomorrow, a recording that brought together artists from Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Barbados during the pandemic, with a message of hope and unity.

He has 14 Marlin Award nominations and five wins, including his first in 2017 and four in 2025, when he was the night's top winner as both artist and producer. He also has 19 Atlanta Music Award nominations. His recording On My Way was selected for GRAMMY consideration, and his production on Kay Morris' Abba Oh was also recognized by the Recording Academy.

His 2025 single "You Made It", written with Joel Thomas, brings lead vocals, choir and live bass together around faith, perseverance and God's faithfulness. In May 2026 it reached No. 1 on MORE Radio and Music Canada's Christian Radio Authority Top 10, and in June 2026 Joshua was named Canadian Male Artist of the Year at the Canadian Selah Music Awards.
