About Joshua Ali
Joshua Ali is an international Gospel recording artist, songwriter, producer, and worship leader from Trinidad and Tobago, now based in Canada. A five-time Marlin Award winner and the 2026 Canadian Male Artist of the Year, Ali has developed a distinctive musical identity that brings the rhythms and cultural influences of the Caribbean together with contemporary Christian, Gospel, worship, and inspirational music.
Raised in the church, Joshua began developing his musical abilities at an early age before pursuing music production. He was mentored by acclaimed engineers Martin Raymond and Dextor Simmons, whose professional credits include work with Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Toni Braxton, and Beyoncé. After establishing himself as a producer, Joshua transitioned into his own recording career in 2015.
Ali describes his musical approach as Alternative Gospel, a fusion of Caribbean soca influences with contemporary and traditional Gospel music. His discography includes Over Dey – Where Home Is, I Am Ready, A Joshua Ali Christmas, and numerous singles and collaborative projects.
Throughout his career, Joshua has collaborated with artists and musicians across the Caribbean, Africa, Canada, and the United States, including Sherwin Gardner, Blessed Messenger, Jaron Nurse, Uche Agu, Positive, Sean Daniel, Nathanael Hamilton, Sherieta Lewis, Jai Symone, Marvin Thomas, Royalties, and many others. He has also shared stages with internationally celebrated Gospel artists including six-time GRAMMY Award winner Israel Houghton, two-time GRAMMY Award winner Tye Tribbett, and GRAMMY Award nominee Jonathan McReynolds.
In 2020, Joshua co-created and produced Children of Tomorrow, an international collaborative recording that brought together artists and musicians from Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados. Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, the song delivered a message of hope, unity, and perseverance during a time of global uncertainty.
Joshua’s career has been recognized extensively throughout the Caribbean and North America. He has received 14 Marlin Award nominations and is a five-time Marlin Award winner, including his first win in 2017 and four additional wins in 2025. In 2025, Joshua emerged as the top winner of the Marlin Awards, receiving honors for his work as an artist and producer. He has also received 19 Atlanta Music Award nominations.
In 2021, Joshua was elected as a Voting Member of the Recording Academy, joining the organization responsible for the GRAMMY Awards. His recording On My Way was selected for GRAMMY consideration, while his production work on Kay Morris’ Abba Oh was also recognized by the Recording Academy.
Joshua’s musical journey continued to expand in Canada. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music & Worship Arts from Tyndale University and currently serves as a Worship Pastor in Ontario, where he combines his work as a recording artist and producer with his passion for developing worship culture within the local church.
In June 2026, Joshua was honored as Canadian Male Artist of the Year at the Canadian Selah Music Awards.
His 2025 single “You Made It” represents a significant new chapter in Joshua’s career. The contemporary Christian recording combines lead vocals, choir, and live instrumentation around a message of faith, perseverance, hope, and God’s faithfulness. In May 2026, You Made It reached No. 1 on MORE Radio and Music Canada’s Christian Radio Authority Top 10, further establishing Joshua’s growing presence within Canada’s Christian music landscape.
Beyond awards and recognition, Joshua’s greatest motivation remains his faith and his desire to use music as a vehicle for hope, worship, encouragement, and the Gospel. He is married to Ashley Ali, and together they are raising their two sons, Israel and Isaiah, in Canada.
From his Caribbean roots to his growing presence in Canada’s Christian music community, Joshua Ali continues to create music that crosses cultural and musical boundaries while remaining grounded in his faith and calling.
